Emily Gregory
Candidate for President
What is your academic major/educational track?
- I am a sophomore majoring Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace Engineering.
Why are you running for this position in the Student Government Association?
- As a student studying Engineering, I have been taught how to analyze and problem solve. I am running for student body president because I want to incite traditions, foster campus community, and promote a culture of kindness; and I feel as though my skills make me an excellent fit for the position.
What past experiences would make you a great candidate for the Student Government Association?
- As the current Senator of Engineering I am well acquainted with how our Student Government functions. I am the Vice-President of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics at UCCS, which has provided me with leadership as well as organizational skills. My family is from Colorado Springs and as a commuter student I feel as though I can voice the opinions of a large part of our student body. As an Orientation Welcome Leader I have an in-depth knowledge of the student body and the needs of our new students.
What are some of your hobbies/interests and how are you involved at UCCS?
- I am a member of several clubs on Campus such as the UCCS Feminists and many Engineering oriented clubs. In my spare time I love doing STEM outreach, last year I was a guest judge at the Pikes Peak Science Fair and recently I helped kids build catapults and trebuchets at the Manitou Fruit Cake Toss. When I am not doing STEM oriented activities, I like to paint and see shows at the ENT center.

What is your academic major/educational track?
- I am currently a third year in the mechanical engineering program with a double minor in aerospace engineering and chemistry.
Why are you running for this position in the Student Government Association?
- I am passionate about creating change and encouraging decision making on campus so that the university can improve and grow based on student influences. I want to help in fostering campus community to promote trust, connectedness, and family within campus life. I believe promoting a culture of kindness throughout the campus community is important in engaging and connecting the student body in getting involved on campus and influencing each other to improve themselves and the university.
What past experiences would make you a great candidate for the Student Government Association?
- I have had the honor of serving UCCS as a justice for the past semester which has helped me in observing and understanding the processes of student government and what it takes to become a student leader and role model for the university. I was previously a D1 student athlete (swimming) at the University of Wyoming my first year. This experience helped me improve my leadership skills, time management skills, and in understanding the values of commitment and responsibility to something you love. I have gained much leadership skill through my experience as team captain for the sports I was involved in and my commitment to being a team lead on the NASA-RASCAL project for the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics (AIAA).
What are some of your hobbies/interests and how are you involved at UCCS?
- Some of my hobbies/interests are reading, being outdoors, and hanging out with my wonderful family and friends. I am usually outside exploring through hikes, going skiing, and going rafting. I am involved at UCCS through my involvement in the UCCS Feminist Club, I am a member of American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics (AIAA), and I was previously involved in chemistry research on campus.
