What SGA position will you be running for?

  • Senator at Large

What is your academic major/educational track?

  • I am studying sociology.

Why are you running for this position in the Student Government Association?

  • I am running for this position to continue my commitments that I have devoted myself to during my two years in this position and to continue to serve a community that has created so many opportunities for both myself and others. I have become increasingly involved on campus, and I have grown to deeply love this community and the people I work alongside every day who look toward something better than what currently is. There is always work to be done, both on campus and in the wider community, and for these reasons, I intend on running again for the position of Senator-at-Large. I know that the actions and change I either enacted or supported will be further developed and new ideas will be fostered and cherished. I plan on cultivating and growing these initiatives until I graduate.

What past experiences would make you a great candidate for the Student Government Association?

  • I have often been remarked to be a reliable, imaginative, and energetic individual, and I like to embody those qualities in my work. Over the last two years, I have had many opportunities to develop projects and initiatives and opportunities to collaborate and engage with other leaders and peers.

What are some of your hobbies/interests and how are you involved at UCCS?

  • I am the Vice President for our Black Student Union, work as a club officer for Dancing on the Bluffs, the secretary of BPHSO, and am a member of many other clubs. My interests generally align with my studies, and my focus is public health. I have an interest in social justice, (I have more of a focus on race and disability and the myriad of intersections that introduces in relation to my focus in public health) and the concept of social justice impacts all of my work- both in and out of school. I work to put these focuses into practice with tangible results, no matter the scale. In SGA, my niche is focusing on ways I can make campus more conducive to student success by advocating for the fulfillment of student needs- as one's environment and outside factors have a large amount of influence and I work to keep doors of opportunity open. Outside of school, I enjoy volunteering, reading, spending time with my dog, and painting.
